VOTERS INFORMATION
2024 local council elections
Local council elections will be held in Victoria by post this October for all councils except Moira Shire Council.
Your vote matters. Local council elections are your chance to choose who you want to represent your community on the issues that you care about.
Enrolment for the 2024 Council Elections is now closed.
This year, the City of Casey will return to elected councillors when local Council Elections occur across Victoria in October 2024.
A panel of Administrators has governed Casey since the state government dismissed the Casey councillors in February 2020. Over the next 12 months, Casey Council will undertake various measures and support the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to ensure a successful transition back to elected officials for the community and our organisation.

Ballot packs for voting
All enrolled Casey residents will receive a voting ballot in the mail in early October 2024.
Ballots must be returned to any Australian Post Office or placed in a red Australian Post mailing box by 6 pm, Friday, 25 October 2024.
Note: Council Offices will not, under any circumstance, accept ballot papers.

New electoral structure for Casey
From Saturday 26 October 2024, Casey will change to a single councillor ward structure, comprising of 12 councillors. New names have been allocated to wards, while some existing wards will keep the current name.
Being one of the largest and fastest growing municipalities in Australia, increasing the number of Councillors to 12 is more reflective of our growing population.
Moving to single councillor wards will also promote fair and equitable representation for voters and support good governance.
Ward boundaries have also been reviewed as part of this process, and our municipality will soon be divided like this:

About Akoonah
Akoonah is an Aboriginal word for ‘running waters’ and is based on the Akoonah park in the ward. This name is registered in the VICNAMES. A 21.4 square kilometres area in Berwick and Beaconsfield suburbs has a total of 21,419 elector. Akoonah is one of the oldest areas in southeast Melbourne with over 15 heritage listed sites. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the City of Casey and Victoria. It is known and featured with Akoonah Park, Old Cheese Factory, Botanical Garden, Pioneer Park and Berwick Show.

The rules for enrolling to vote in council elections have changed, so it’s a good idea to check and see if you’re impacted.

Voting
Voting in this election is by post only.
We will post ballot packs to all enrolled voters from Monday 7 October.
Your ballot pack will contain:
- a ballot paper
- candidate statements
- a ballot paper envelope (for your vote to go in)
- a reply-paid envelope (for your ballot paper envelope to go in)
- a leaflet with instructions in other languages.
How to vote

Make sure you post it or drop it off at the election office before 6 pm on Friday 25 October.
Local mail collection times differ. Check the collection time on your post box to make sure your vote is in the mail on time.

Away during the election
If you’re going to be away between Monday 7 October and Friday 25 October, you may still be able to vote.
Large print or braille ballot packs
If you are blind or have low vision, you can register to get your ballot pack in large print or braille.
You only need to register once. If you’ve registered for past elections, there’s no need to register again.
Registrations are open until 5 pm on Tuesday 10 September. Call 03 8620 1314 to register.
What happens if I do not vote?
In Victoria, if you are enrolled to vote, you must vote in all Federal, State and council elections. If you do not vote, you may get a fine.
